Poshed Out.

Dear Abbi,

I am an junior agent at a real estate firm In New York City and the Hamptons.  While my job is sometimes pretty cool-as I get to show apartments and vacation homes—and I’m talking really amazing apartments—I’ve been thinking more and more of going back to school to be a teacher.  Right now I’m living a pretty glamorous life.  I get paid a really great salary, benefits, and perks like you wouldn’t believe.  I can get reservations pretty much anywhere in the city, VIP access to clubs and hotels, and I get to meet a lot of high profile clients.  But sometimes I feel like I’m not satisfied at the end of the day and I’m not really making a difference in the world, and I think that matters.  I ask my family and friends for their opinions and they all can’t believe I’d leave this ridiculously amazing job I already have.  I think it’s more important to do something I really care about.  What is your opinion?

Dear Poshed,

It sounds like your current position is pretty cool, but it’s not as cool as say, Dottie Hanson’s job in a League of Their Own.  I mean, not to put down your job or anything, but she got to play in the All-American Girls Baseball League of 1943.  Yeah you have benefits and VIP access but do you get to play baseball everyday with a hilarious and loyal group of gals like The Peaches?  I’m not saying your job isn’t glamorous, but I just think maybe you need to take your job off that pedestal you’re putting it on because it’s not like you’re a catcher for a team that will later be featured in the Baseball Hall of Fame. I’m just saying that there might be more glamorous jobs than the one you have, like ones where you are coached by a famous washed-up baseball player like Jimmy Dugan.  Being a teacher is a good idea. Being a member of the All American League is a better idea.

Best of Luck,

Abbi
